Age Discrimination In The Selection Of Transplant Candidates

People who are above the age of 45 usually encounter many problems with their health and by then some men or women would have had to undergo a heart transplant or any kind of major surgery.

However, because of their health condition an employer cannot deny the job and it would be counted under age discrimination if it was found that the person was fit to execute the job role.

Such age discrimination cases are more commonly found in the job lay offs category rather than employment category. There are several selfish reasons for an employer to deny the job and on of the main reason is insurance. The employer will find it more expensive to offer insurance to a person who has a medical condition and also the insurance amount is higher for people who are older.

There are no federal laws that favor the employer on the grounds of company expenses and that is why denying a job on these grounds is considered as age discrimination. After the recent lay offs in the United States, there have been several cases of age discrimination because many people were being refused jobs in the name of job cuts. The percentage of older people losing their jobs was found to be on the rise and that is why the number of age discrimination cases also has increased. Many popular companies including the ones listed in Fortune 500 have been blamed for age discrimination by their former employees. However, any person who is older should always know what their rights according to the federal law.
