Diagnosing My Mood Swings

A person can experience mood swings for several different reasons and there are some thousands of conditions that can actually cause mood swings in people. If it is a man who is going through mood swings, there are several reasons that cause them. If it is a woman who has the mood swings, then there are totally a different set of reasons causing the mood disorder.

Always mood swings need to be observed along with other symptoms for proper diagnosis. Using mood swings as a symptom alone one cannot diagnose the problem or treat it efficiently.  If a man is going through mood swings, then the possible reason could be depression, andropause, adolescence, prostrate cancer, anxiety, neurological problems, heart condition, midlife crisis and many more. If a woman is having mood swings, then the reasons could be several like depression, premenopausal symptoms, menopause, perimenopause, periods, breast cancer, stress or hormonal imbalance.

However, no matter what the final cause is, the most common culprits to cause mood swings are the hormones and the brain's reaction to the hormones. Certain hormones end up playing havoc with the central nervous system and cause the brain to react in such a way that the person exhibits mood swings. However, mood swings do not occur out of the blue and always there will be some other clear symptoms that the person will show initially. If a person feels happy for one moment and very irate or sad the other moment without any reason, then something is wrong with him or her.

Mood swings are always categorized with the extremities in the mood. It is normal for people to remain silent sometimes and be in deep thought. It is not natural for a person to be constantly quiet at one moment and then exuberant at another.
