Perimenopause Bleeding Patterns

Perimenopause in women can start early in life. In some women this stage can begin as early as their mid-thirties. Women should start taking care of themselves through exercise and diet during this time. If every woman exercises regularly and follows a regular and timely diet, then she can avoid several symptoms and problems caused due to perimenopause and menopause.

During perimenopause, several women actually have absence of periods. That is periods start delaying and in some women the delay may be as long as three months. However, the delay in periods can also cause other problems like poly cystic ovarian disease (PCOD) and fibroids.

After delayed periods, normally women experience severe bleeding which lasts for almost 15 days. This is mainly caused due to the presence of fibroids. Why do fibroids form? The main cause of fibroids is the absence of periods. During the absence of periods the ovaries stop functioning but the rest of the uterus is functioning normally. However, the regular process is for the uterus to shed the hormones and minerals collected and as this does not happen, they start forming fibroids. Fibroids can cause several problems and they eventually have to be removed by surgery if they start creating problems. Excess fibroids also result in the removal of the uterus in some cases. If fibroids are left in the uterus for a long time, then they can become cancerous.

Bleeding patterns keep changing during perimenopause and what used to be regular cycles become extremely undependable and irregular. This is one of the biggest symptoms of perimenopause and can actually start several years before the onset of menopause.
