Post Menopause And Hysterectomy Testosterone

Hysterectomy is a surgery that is performed on woman to remove the uterus completely or partially. There are several reasons why this surgery is performed and some of the factors include cancer, problems with the uterus itself or the ovaries, fibroids, and many more. When the uterus stops functioning, it is removed from the body so that it does not harm or cause problems to other organs.

Hysterectomy has a major impact on the woman especially if it is performed in the menopausal or perimenopausal stage. When complete hysterectomy is done, the woman skips perimenopause and menopause and directly enters the post menopause stage. However, her body refuses to accept this change and with changes in hormone levels, the woman faces a lot of problems.

When hysterectomy takes place, production of estrogen and progesterone is abruptly stopped. This causes a spike in the levels of testosterone and the woman may start developing certain masculine features like excess facial hair on the upper lip and chin region.

However, the woman does not go through any psychological changes after hysterectomy and is able to handle her entry into post menopause very nicely. In addition, if the hysterectomy is performed in the post menopausal stage, the woman does not suffer from any side effects -- psychologically or physiologically -- because the uterus has already lost its functioning capabilities and it does not make a difference to the woman whether the uterus is present or not.

Testosterone level is used as an indicator to check whether a woman is entering menopause if hysterectomy took place before the woman entered this phase.
