|Medical Treatment For Tinnitus
Medical treatment for tinnitus is very limited. Tinnitus used to be thought as purely psychological condition but not anymore. Once tinnitus was acknowledge as medical condition, modern day medical treatment normally consists of drugs, audio maskers, complimentary treatments, biofeedback and surgery in rare cases.
Typical medications used to cure and treat tinnitus have been anti-depressant drugs such as Xanax, antihistamines that reduce allergies and some heart medications. For people with chronic tinnitus, drug treatment may offer some success. Lidocaine (Xylocaine, xylocaine viscous, zilactin-L) has been shown to relieve tinnitus for some people, but it must be given intravenously and its effect does not last long. Complimentary treatment such as medication, yoga and relaxation technique, acupuncture and hypnosis are quite common too. Biofeedback utilizes special exercises to relax head and neck muscles to try to reduce the effects of tinnitus then there are audio treatment using things like hearing aids and audio maskers, etc. which basically try to reduce the sounds you hear relative to external sound. Another treatment option may involve surgery and this is one that most people try to avoid and this option is rarely used by physicians. Apart from this, avoidance of caffeine and aspirin products in large quantities is recommended as it may worsen the symptoms of tinnitus.
A new option of treatment for tinnitus has just been introduced by medical community which might give new hope to the people who have tried other medications and remedies and are still suffering. This new treatment is called neuromonics or sound masking as it’s is so called. This treatment utilizes a customized neural stimulus combined with specific music delivered according to specific program. The treatment is designed to interact, interrupt and desensitize tinnitus disturbance for long term benefit. This treatment is clinically proved and cleared by the FDA and customized for each patient to address the root causes of tinnitus disturbance.
There are also breakthroughs in homeopathic remedies that some claim to help. For those people who do not take traditional medication, homeopathic remedies are an alternative.
